A mini a day keeps the Doctor away
About Me
My web/blog is about my addiction, my obsession, my love for miniatures. Building dollhouses and making miniatures has been a very therapeutic hobby and my escape from the realities of this sometimes harsh world.
Hi there. My name is Kat. I live in sunny (HOT) Florida. My passion is minis including the mini pictured with me. She is one of my Granddaughters. Her name is Londyn.
I love working with miniatures and creating something I didn’t know I could create. I constantly surprise myself. I still consider myself a “newbie” when it comes to building a tiny piece of furniture or making a plant or flower out of paper, etc. Nothing I make is perfect and for a long time that really bothered me. I have to constantly remind myself that the little people can’t see the mistakes. lol I am still learning but I’m having so much fun along the way. One of these days I’ll try my hand at fimo clay and try to make food. But, for now, my passion is still building houses, room boxes and working with wood.
My fascination with dollhouses began after my first Granddaughter (Katalyna) was born. That was 17 years ago. I was in my forties. I didn’t know anything about dollhouses or anything miniature. My first house was a Greenleaf house, the Emerson Row. There was a small store in our town, and they sold the cheaper houses and the cheaper furniture. I had fun building the house and making my own “crude” items to go in the house but, along the way, I realized a Greenleaf house is not a house for kids. I also concluded it was not the kind of house I wanted to build again. I did a lot of research and learned about Real Good Toys houses. I also learned you could actually light up a house. I learned about eBay and all the Websites that sold miniatures. I learned about all the “real” miniaturized furniture and accessories that were available. My passion began! My next house was the Newport from RGT. I had so much fun with that house. I learned a lot. With each house build I learned more and more.
I build dollhouses and create minis just for myself really. I don’t sell them. Actually, I did have to sell my big houses because I moved into a smaller home. That was several years ago. I look at pictures now and I so regret selling them. I miss them. 🙂 I don’t sell anything anymore. I have just been creating room boxes now just in case I have to move again. So much love and time and money go into building a big, beautiful house. I don’t want to go through that and have to give it away again.
My obsession with all things miniature has literally been a life saver. When life circumstances are not so good, my room with all my miniature’s is right down the hall. That is where I escape to. All thoughts are on what I’m doing or what I’m making.
When it comes to blogging, I have never blogged before. This is new to me. So, if this doesn’t sound “professional” or my grammar is wrong, I apologize but I’m not here to speak correctly. I’m here to share my thoughts and ideas and my pictures of my work. There might be something here that helps someone new. Join me in my journey and have fun. Have an Awesome Mini Day!
